What can we help with?

So the right tech handles your vehicle.

We do not quote a flat price for rotation alone since it's typically included with a changeover or balancing visit. Ask and we'll confirm.

Two different jobs, often done together

Rotation evens out wear

Moving each tire to a different position so no single tire takes all the wear from steering, braking or drive torque.

Balancing stops vibration

Small weights are added to each wheel so it spins true, without the shake you'd feel at highway speed.

Usually done at the same visit

Rotation is quick once wheels are already off for balancing or a seasonal swap.

$40-$80 Seasonal swap per set, when rotation is bundled in

Why rotation and balancing matter more than people think

Tires wear unevenly by default. Front tires usually carry more steering and braking load, and on a front-wheel-drive vehicle they also carry the drive torque, so they wear faster than the rears if left in place. Rotating tires, moving the fronts to the back and the backs to the front in a pattern matched to your drivetrain, spreads that wear out evenly so you get more usable life from the whole set instead of replacing two tires early while the other two still have tread left. Balancing is a separate issue: a wheel and tire assembly is never perfectly uniform in weight, so small weights are clipped or stuck onto the rim to cancel out that imbalance. An unbalanced wheel shows up as a vibration through the steering wheel or seat, usually worse at highway speed, and it also accelerates uneven tread wear on its own. Because both jobs need the wheels off the vehicle, they’re almost always more efficient to do together, and we typically bundle rotation into a seasonal changeover or a balancing visit rather than pricing it as its own separate appointment.

Our Process

How a rotation and balancing visit works

1

Tell us what's going on

A vibration, uneven wear you've noticed, or just due for service.

2

Wheels come off

Inspected for wear pattern before anything moves.

3

Rotated and balanced

Moved to the correct position and balanced on the machine.

4

Torqued back on

Lug nuts set to spec and pressures checked before you go.

Between scheduled visits

Signs you shouldn't wait for the next changeover

Rotation and balancing usually happen at a seasonal swap, but some signs are worth acting on sooner. A vibration that shows up through the steering wheel or the seat, and gets worse as you speed up on the highway, is the classic sign of a wheel out of balance, and it is worth checking before it speeds up wear on that tire. Running a hand across the tread can turn up feathering, a saw-tooth edge you can feel more than see, which is more of an alignment sign than a balancing one but is still worth flagging. If one tire looks visibly shallower than the other three, especially on a vehicle that hasn’t been rotated in a while, that is worth a look too since it means the wear isn’t being spread evenly. A pull to one side is a different problem again, closer to alignment than rotation or balance, so mention that separately if it is what you are noticing. None of these need to wait for a scheduled appointment.

Rotation and balancing questions

How often should tires be rotated?

Follow the rotation interval in your owner's manual, since it varies by vehicle. Ask us at your next changeover and we'll check it for you.

Why is there no set price listed for rotation alone?

Rotation is quick labour once wheels are already off, so we typically bundle it into a changeover or balancing visit rather than pricing it separately. Ask for a quote and we'll be upfront about what's included.

What does a vibration in the steering wheel usually mean?

Most often it's an out-of-balance wheel, though it can also point to an alignment issue or tire damage. We check balance first since it's the more common and less expensive cause.

Can rotation and balancing be done at the same time as a seasonal swap?

Yes, that's the most common time to do it, since the wheels are already off the vehicle for the changeover.

Does balancing fix a pull to one side?

No, a pull to one side usually points to an alignment issue rather than balance. See our wheel alignment page if that's what you're noticing.
